Purpose of Job
Part of the Language Services Unit and the Office of the Secretary General, the role is responsible for the organisation and provision of high-quality (written) translation services for one of the Bank’s statutory working languages (French) to ensure effective communication of the Bank’s messages to senior government officials and authorities, civil society organisations, businessmen, economists, the legal community and the public.

It interacts with the Unit Head and team, Bank staff in client departments and regional offices, external freelance translators and interpreters, and counterparts in other international organisations.

The role is also responsible for ensuring terminology coherence and sharing through the use of computer assisted translation tools.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities
To organise, direct and oversee the French translation section of LSU and all requests for French translation to meet the Bank’s operational, institutional, public information and communication needs
To ensure that the quality of translation from English into French meets the high standards required at an intergovernmental financial institution by overseeing the selection and recruitment of suitably qualified external translators and regularly monitoring and revising their work
To translate from English into French politically sensitive, high profile, confidential and legal documents
To set the linguistic standards of the French section
In consultation with French-speaking Bank staff, to develop and maintain a French terminology for the Bank

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications
University degree and diploma from a recognised interpretation/translation school
Perfect command of the French language and excellent knowledge of English and preferably one other working language of the Bank
Substantial experience as a translator, reviser or interpreter with international organisations such as the UN, IMF, EU or OECD.
Top quality analytical and translation skills, including proven ability to translate a wide range of complex technical, legal, financial and politically sensitive texts
Awareness of geopolitical and economic developments in the Bank’s regions
Familiar with the use of computer-assisted-translation tools and the development of a terminological database
Ability to work under pressure and with a team in a collaborative manner
Political acumen and diplomacy essential
